SUPPORT AN EXCEPTIONAL TEACHER WHO HAS LOST BOTH ARMS AND HIS RIGHT LEG IN AN ELECTRICAL ACCIDENT, SO HE CAN EARN AN ESL MASTER’S DEGREE AND CONTINUE TO INSPIRE A COMMUNITY OF ENGLISH LEARNERS
To supplement the scholarship Victor was awarded by ICESI University in Cali, Colombia, he is in need of $10,000 USD to cover his student fees and be able to support his family.
We are raising money in support of Victor Heredia's dream to earn a Master's in ESL at ICESI University in Cali, Colombia.
I’m Victor Heredia. I was born 40 years ago in the small town of Sevilla – Valle, Colombia, and currently, I live in Cali where I moved 30 years ago after my accident with electricity where I lost my right leg and two arms. Thanks to my parents’ support and the help of the H.I.M Foundation lead by Karen Scheeringa, I was able to be successfully rehabilitated and have been able to live a fulfilling life. God closed one door for me for a good reason, but after my accident, he has also opened many other doors for me.
I have been teaching English at a public secondary school for the last 15 years and I’m an active and positive member of my school's Bilingual Project where I have played an important role promoting English among students and colleagues, and in the "Red de Maestros de Inglés de Cali." I also teach at the Colombo Americano in the adult program and serve as a coach in the Kids and Teens Program. I help teachers under my supervision and I’m responsible for training them and guiding them in their professional development. I received a B.A. in the Teaching of Foreign Languages from Universidad del Valle in 2009.
I’m single and in my free time, I love spending time with my family. I also enjoy fishing, playing soccer, and watching a good movie with my mom, sisters, nephew, and niece. My foundation in life is my family and I would love to be able to continue with my master’s studies to keep growing professionally, and also as a person, son, brother, uncle, and friend.
I was proud to be selected as a Teaching Excellence and Achievement (TEA) Fellow in 2013. I studied at Montana State University and would have loved to return to Montana to complete my Masters in Curriculum & Instruction, but because of the COVID 19 that was not possible at this time. I'm happy to say I am attending the ICESI university in Cali this fall.
I appreciate any support you can provide to help me realize my dream.
